Give hope to indie rock bands everywhere, Death Cab for Cutie went from underground indie gem Grammy-nominated band rock in the blink of an eye. Death Cab for Cutie originated as a side project for singer / guitarist Ben Gibbard, who was an engineering student at the University Western Washington in Bellingham, Washington. Gibbard, who was a part-time student and part-time musician, took a break from a power pop band windlass, which enjoyed local success, to record solo material in the summer of 1997 with producer Chris Walla. The result of eight song cassette entitled You Can Play These Songs with line was a local sensation and later Gibbard formed the band in their own group of friends.

With drummer Nathan Good, bassist Nick Harmer (Gibbard companion fourth) and Walla on guitar (later to produce the majority of notifications of Death Cab's,) named his new group Gibbard of Death Cab for Cutie, taking the name of a song by the Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band. The quartet signed a recording contract with the Seattle-based label Barsuk Records and released their first study, Something About Airplanes, in 1998. The album contains a handful of re-recorded tracks from the You Can Play These Songs with Chords cassette and Death Cab for Cutie revealed to be a creation dream pop with a sound similar to incorporated spills. Gibbard side continued to enjoy success with his other group, the Postal Service and Death Cab for Cutie began to gain popularity.

In 2000 we have the facts and we're Voting Yes was released (Well out of the lineup prior to completion and Michael Schorr rose board), followed by The Forbidden Love EP and LP album full body photos (Death Cab third), both in 2001. Barsuk re-released You Can Play These Songs with chords with 10 tracks needed before the most brilliant of the group effort, however, Transatlanticism, found a new drummer, Jason McGerr, the following year. Television producer Josh Schwartz liked what he heard and played songs from Transatlanticism Death Cab in his hit show The OC, which marked the height of the popularity of the indie band like children everywhere began to listen to the character Seth Cohen (a principal in the popular drama) favorite band.

After releasing the live album The John Byrd EP Death Cab for Cutie signed a major recording contract with Atlantic Records in 2004 and plans issued shortly after seeing that triggers at number four. The album eventually went platinum, earned a Grammy nomination and Death Cab for Cutie the indie band of the day, with a cover in the magazine Spin and an appearance on Saturday Night Live to boot. In May 2008, Death Cab released its major label follow-up, darker album Narrow Stairs. Narrow Stairs debuted at number one (its release coincided with Walla solo album Field Manual) and spawned hit single "Cath". The next tour of the band is in support of Narrow Stairs So hurry and get your Death Cab for Cutie tickets soon or risk losing the band when they stop in a town near you!

With songs equal to those on We Have the Facts and a lush, brilliant production that continues what The Photo Album started, Transatlanticism is easily Death Cab's best record to date. Much attention has duly been focused on doe-eyed singer/lyricist Ben Gibbard, co-star of the Postal Service phenomenon, and Ben's voice is as strange, beautiful, and as strong as ever on these songs, which deal with the difficulties of long-distance relationships...

Death Cab for Cutie turn difficult personal issues into literary rock songs while straddling the narrow line between blissful pop and driving indie rock. The Northwest act's songs soar high like Built to Spill's or Beulah's, and almost every track on The Photo Album is as musically bouncy and upbeat as the best of those bands...
